Tyler Seguin, US professional ice hockey athlete and one of the most dynamic players for the Dallas Stars joins Skill Yoga as an Ambassador.
Born in Ontario, Canada NHL superstar and Dallas Stars player Tyler Seguin is a professional ice hockey center player. Playing in minor hockey leagues since the age of 8 in Canada, Tyler was destined for professional greatness. That break came when he was selected second overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins, and went on to win the 2011 Stanley Cup in his rookie season. Since then Tyler has gone on to win Olympic gold with Canada, and countless matches with his new team, Dallas Stars.

Tyler Seguin has been doing Yoga on a regular basis for years to complement his training. Similarly, Yoga helps him work on his mobility and build strength. He now joins us as the first Ambassador for Skill Yoga to set the basis for creating new training content for athletes. We spoke to him briefly about his career, training and Yoga.
Q1. How often are you training at the moment and what does your training comprise of?
Currently, I’m in an offseason and not playing. I’m training four days a week. I have a recovery day on Wednesdays where im usually doing Yoga. The other days I train early in the morning in the gym and then I go on the ice to practice.
Q2. How has Skill Yoga helped you in your training?
Yoga helps in many different ways. It really helps for my stretching and my hips, I’ve had tightness in my hips my whole career. I also use yoga during the year for mental calmness, seasons get long and stressful so it definitely helps. Yoga has always been part of my training. When it comes to finding the right training, Skill Yoga is just the best possible solution for athletes and is known for creating personalized training plans for every background and goal. I mainly use Skill Yoga to improve my mobility, but it is also great for building strength and learning specific skills.
Q3. The pressure of winning, stress of training – How do you keep yourself centered and your mind focused?
You change your thinking, stress less and look at it as an opportunity. Definitely, long seasons and training offseason get tiresome and stressful and that’s when I look to yoga to center myself. It brings awareness in me and makes me mindful and able to be in control
Q4. What was a high point in your career? What does it mean to be an athlete to you?
The high point of my career so far was definitely winning the Stanley Cup, something I strive for every year. To be an athlete – It’s a dream come true. And it’s a responsibility as well, to myself and my teammates to be the best I can be.
Q5. Would you like to say a few words of motivation for our community of athletes?
My short and sweet advice would be to relish the sacrifices, know that they need to happen and you should enjoy doing so, you owe it to yourself and loved ones to be the best you can be at your craft, so take all those steps to do so to the best of your capabilities.
